a review of The Unexpected Everything

First book for our June Book Club pick was I must say cute, and I don’t say that too often about books. This was an easy breezy read and was perfect for this weekend at the beach. Despite it being a nice easy read, the characters did have some dimension to them. Andie, the main protagnist (while not being my favorite character) had some really healthy character development in a coming of age way. She grew up and realized you can’t really plan out ALL of your life. Sometimes things just happen and you go with it. I enjoyed reading the scenes with her and her father, and her and Clark. Clark which I am a bit smitten over. I wish there was more of him and now I want to read the story he wrote in the book. I looked forward to those little snippets.

As for the Andie’s friends, Toby, Bri, and Palmer: They were nice and all had very different personalities. Toby and Bri were a bit annoying at times, but I was very happy with the outcome of their friendship. As I mentioned earlier in the review, you can’t plan out all of your life and things change, even friendship. Most of the book was predictable, but I didn’t see it coming when Toby decided not to stay friends with Bri. I appreciated that honest depiction of friendship. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want it to and sometimes they do.

Overall a nice read. Highly recommend if you are going through a book hangover and need a stand alone book to make you feel good.
